Reliability in dynamic urban spaces
In Berlin, former brownfield sites such as Park am Gleisdreieck, Mauerpark and Tempelhofer Feld are being transformed into versatile urban open spaces that can be used sustainably for events, recreation and sport thanks to durable and flexible supply installations such as the bollards and cabinets from Thieme.
As the German capital with 4 million inhabitants, Berlin serves as a residential and living space for a wide variety of user groups. Tourists are also repeatedly drawn to this lively place. In order to maintain and sustainably promote the vibrancy of the city, the urban space is continuously being redesigned and further developed, and brownfield sites are being given a new function through conversion, thus contributing to urban dynamism and quality of life. Three prominent examples of this are Park am Gleisdreieck, a former brownfield site that was transformed into an urban open space between 2011 and 2013, Mauerpark, a former strip of the Berlin Wall between Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding that is now a city park, and Tempelhofer Feld, a former airfield.
This was reopened in 2010 as a leisure and recreational space and is now one of the largest urban open spaces in the world. For over 10 years, these conversion projects have been establishing themselves in Berlin's urban space and providing a stage for urban life as a meeting place, a place to spend time, a venue for events and a space for sport and exercise. Mauerpark, for example, is the venue for flea markets, while Tempelhofer Feld hosts temporary festivals. The equipment needed to facilitate these uses requires a high degree of durability and reliability. At the same time, these elements must be highly flexible so that they can be used for different purposes.
Thieme's supply bollards and cabinets are products that have proven their worth in Berlin's urban environment. Thanks to their high durability, they have almost unlimited application possibilities. They enable open spaces to be supplied with connection points for electricity and water. The supply cabinets are also suitable for installing the technology for irrigation systems or fountains. The one-off installation of the supply bollards and cabinets with individually integrated supply units, adapted to the location and use, makes the constant assembly and disassembly of mobile power boxes and water supply lines obsolete.
They meet the pressure to withstand different user groups with stringent stability and continuous functionality. They are fixed in place with ground anchors for setting in concrete. Durability and adaptability are expressed in the high-quality, timeless look, which is characterised by clear structures and a simple design language. The adaptability is also reflected in the comprehensive selection of colour coatings according to RAL or DB colour charts. At the same time, they can be used as a canvas, e.g. for graffiti, in the respective neighbourhood. The robust hot-dip galvanised steel ensures that the supply cabinets and bollards retain their function.

Architects, landscape architects and property owners need to equip supply and exhaust air systems, for example in underground car parks, with covers and at the same time ensure a visually appealing design. With their simple and elegantly functional design, Thieme GmbH ventilation covers are an ideal and universally suitable solution for this, allowing the focus of attention to remain on the appearance of the surroundings. We work with you to develop customised solutions for individual seating elements or planters. In Münster, Westphalia, for example, organically shaped above-ground ventilation outlets were created for the ventilation of an underground car park, which function as seating, planters and supply units with integrated water connections.
