Inner city islands
Based on a design by Klein.Riesenbeck + Assoziierte GmbH, an ensemble of three structures has been created in Münster, Westphalia, between Kolde-Ring and the Münstersche Aa - the Provincial House for the Sisters of Divine Providence and two apartment buildings. The bar-shaped structures span an inner courtyard that invites visitors to linger with its customised, organically shaped seating elements and generous planters.
An underground car park below the inner courtyard made it possible to provide the necessary parking spaces. The underground car park is naturally ventilated via above-ground ventilation outlets of the appropriate size and placement. To cover these outlets, individual covers were developed that function as a seating element, a planter and a supply unit with integrated water connection. Each of these elements is tailor-made and has its own unique geometry. The chosen material combination of hot-dip galvanised steel and hardwood not only ensures durability, but also blends harmoniously into the surroundings.
